Accents

An accent is a decorative embellishment that is used on a digital scrapbook layout to give emphasis to a particular element within the overall composition of the page. For example, a cardstock tag maybe used as the anchor upon which to affix a date stamp thereby providing visually pleasing chronological context for the project. In other words, the tag embellishment was used together with the date element to accent the layout.

Actions

An action is generally defined as the process of something being done. In Adobe Photoshop actions are essentially a mini program within the imaging software that can be backed-up into an .ATN file format. Essentially automation, they are a special series of commands and steps can be recorded for repeated use for common tasks when scrapping. For example, applying drop shadow effects on embellishments is a task that is necessary for pretty much each and every single layout created. If you are using a sketchPLATE, then the drop shadows are already built into the design. However, if you are creating a new canvas from scratch, then the drop shadows must be applied as you are creating your page. An action replaces the many steps involved in creating and adding drop shadow layer styles and turns the entire process into a one click step.

Alpha / Alphabet

Digital Scrapbooking Alphas are specially designed, decorative alphabet letter images, essentially embellishments in their own right, saved in .PNG file format. With their in-built transparent backgrounds, they are prefect for use on digital scrapbook layouts when emphasis placed on the letter/s adds visual appeal to the page’s composition. Often used in title work to add a fun splash to the overall creative imagery, alphas may also used as monograms on pages as well as in other types of digital art projects and for hybrid scrapbooking. We have a variety of stand-alone alphabet ensemble products in the Design Shop, many them designed as part of a specifically colour-themed and styled collection. All of our alphas are carefully crafted so that they retain eclectic versatility (aka you can use them multiple times and with other kits). Our Alpha sets often contain numbers and punctuation, but this is not always the case. Sometimes international characters and special accents are added so that the alpha may also be easily used to spell words in languages other than English. See also Number Sets.

Artifact

An Artifact, in Digital Scrapbooking, refers to a visual distortion or defect in the digital image that occurs as a result of or during the digitisation process. These defects can be caused by various factors such as file type conversions, file compression settings, or even simply result from low-quality photographs or scanning settings. Artifacts can manifest in different forms, such as pixelation, color distortion, noise, or loss of details. In Digital Scrapbooking, it is important to ensure that the image graphics used are of high quality, and free of artifacts, in order to achieve the best possible finished page, especially if the layout is to be printed at 300dpi resolution.

digiscrapVERSE

The digiscrapVERSE, an Anita Richards Designs custom created portmanteau, is the special place in the cosmos where digiscrappers lose themselves to the dark art of Digital Scrapbooking.

Digital Scrapbooking / DigiScrapping

The simplest definition of Digital Scrapbooking is that it is a special hobby dedicated to preserving life stories as beautiful works of art. It is the photographic capture, decorative recording and sharing of important family moments. DigiScrapping, a portmanteau, is a memory-keeping creative craft and pleasurable pass time for those of us who love it. The incorporation of computer technology and apparatus is what sets it apart from traditional forms of paper scrapbooking.

Eclectic Frou-Frou

Overall Anita Richards’ experience in design has led her into specialised creative work that she likes to call Eclectic Frou-Frou. Anita LOVES working with feminine imagery so the term frou-frou just feels totally natural to her for some reason. Some of the historical design styles that she particularly loves include Art Deco, Art Nouveau, mid-century modern, vintage botanicals, graphic magazine style presentations … and the list goes on. There are soooo many style options available from across all the fabulous designers in the digiscrapVERSE. Usually, when scrapping, Anita blends more than one style together; this preference flows organically into her design work.

Voila!

Eclectic Frou-Frou, the name given to the design style that has evolved in the works of Anita Richards Designs since 2005.

Elements

Just like the periodic table of elements in chemistry, in Digital Scrapbooking elements are categorical components of a digital scrapbook layout used to decoratively accent the page. For example, a layout may contain the compositional elements of: photographs, ephemera, decorative papers, background cardstock, journaling, date information, a title, and assorted embellishments – the embellishments can then be further sub-categorised according to their type, for instance flowers and ribbons. NB: Not to be confused with Adobe® Photoshop® Elements (PSE) although many digiscrappers do refer to PSE as Elements… just sayin’.

Embellishments

To embellish something means to add decoration to make it aesthetically pleasing; to make it look beautiful. As a design element, embellishments may be used in many ways to accent a page. In Digital Scrapbooking embellishments add texture and depth to a layout. They may be used to enhance the realistic visual appeal of a page or to create a dreamy collage or to achieve a graphic magazine type appearance. Embellishments are purely subjective, often add emotional depth to photographs in the layout and can make powerful statements without the necessity of using words. As an aside: I like to call them embelles because em in HTML coding renders text in italics and belle means “beautiful” in Italian. Perfect for digiscrapping!

Quickpages

The pre-made Digital Scrapbooking layouts, called quickpages (a portmanteau) by many digiscrappers, they are known as scrapSNAPS here at Anita Richards Designs.

S

scrapSNAPS

Designed so that you can scrap a layout in a SNAP, our scrapSNAPS, an Anita Richards Designs custom created portmanteau, are pre-made, fully embellished layouts (sometimes called quickpages) with either a single or multiple transparent windows for photographs, that are completed by adding a photo or a number of photos, together with any desired journaling or title work. The completed layout is then either printed or saved for later.

sketchPLATES

Inspired by hand-drawn sketches and designed as reusable temPLATES, our sketchPLATES, an Anita Richards Designs custom created portmanteau, are pre-designed layout compositions, layered digital scrapbook templates. Our sketchPLATES are saved in the Photoshop native file format plus in the layered lossless .TIF format with capacity to fully edit, add & delete layers and layer styles. sketchPLATES often include specially designed embellishments that may be retained or replaced during scrapping as the layout is completed by adding a photo or a number of photographs, journaling and other design elements, for example, symbolic memorabilia accents. The completed layout is then either printed or saved for later.

Styles

A style is generally defined as a type, kind or sort of something especially when referring to a visual appearance, character or form. In Adobe Photoshop styles are essentially special effects that may be used to define and/or enhance the appearance of an object within a layer. Styles may be saved as presets that can in turn be backed-up into an .ASL file format. Similar in some ways to actions, a style provides an automated shortcut to achieve a particular image appearance result. A style preset replaces the many steps involved in creating and adding a drop shadow to each layer individually, turning the entire process into a one click step.

textPATHS

Our textPATHS, an Anita Richards Designs custom created portmanteau, are page elements pre-designed especially for Digital Scrapbooking . They are primarily used for journaling, and combine the use of the in-built Adobe Photoshop text on a path tool together with a custom designed, curved, straight directional or object shape path. This combination enables the text for titles or journaling to be typed and rendered in an appealing and decorative way within a digiscrap layout canvas.

wordART

Using wordART (a portmanteau) on a digital scrapbook layout is a special way of adding words or short pieces of text in an ARTistic, decorative, and / or symbolic fashion. Sometimes including images, wordART elements may be anything from titles to hashtags, names to dictionary definitions, quotes to iconic labels, and everything in between! The possibilities are endless. One of our specialties here at Anita Richards Designs is the exquisite attention to detail that we imbue into our wordART pieces and sets.
